A few coworkers and I built a Slack-based snack distribution service
for our office. Post an emoji of the snack you wanted (Diet Coke,
Peanut M&Ms, seltzer) and your location, and your sustenance
appeared. Monthly Venmo charge tallied your consumption.
The Rise and Rise of :Nom:
Commentary courtesy of Brad Jacobson.
The best way to tell this story is through the voice of our customers…
Launched through a simple post to #general.
A custom emoji :nom: indicated an order.
The excitement for the product AND seamless service was palpable.
It caught on fast.
Like, really fast.
We developed a NOMenclature:
- 🚨 — New Member Arrival!
- 🗣️ — WOMNOM (word-of-mouth nom) Referral
- 🚩 — Where are you?
- 🏃 — It's on its way!
- 📦 — We've delivered.
Some new members had trouble.
Some were in disbelief.
Then we had our first product expansion.
You could say people were excited.
There were times when demand was too much.
When we sold out, we replaced the custom emoji with a blank white square.
We even got a few international orders.
And we were sure to send people out in style.
✌️ for "See you later!"
